Healthy Recipes: Japanese Kukicha Summer-Tea

Cool off on warm summer days with this Japanese kukicha summer-tea. Although it is healthiest to drink tea always warm, you can treat yourself now and then, when it is warm outside to a healthy, cold and refreshing drink. This Japanese kukicha summer tea is a healthy and delicious alternative to the usual ready-made soft drinks, which often contain a lot of sugar and unhealthy additives.

Kukicha is tea from the branches of the tea bush and contains the most minerals of all Japanese teas. In addition, this particular tea contains a substance called L-theanine, which has a stress-reducing effect and strengthens your immune system. The aroma of kukicha is sweet and stands out from other Japanese green teas. Since kukicha contains practically no tea caffeine, this tea can also be drunk in the late evening and is therefore also very suitable for children.

We added a tangy, fruity note to our kukicha summer-tea by adding apple juice and a few squirts of lemon and ginger juice. We show you here how you can prepare this delicious summer drink easily yourself.

Ingredients for Kukicha Summer-Tea

  • 1 liter of water
  • 1 tablespoon kukicha
  • 100 ml apple juice
  • 50 ml lemon juice
  • 50 ml ginger juice
  • 1 lemon
  • Fresh mint

Preparation of the Kukicha Summer-Tea

Step 1
Put 1 tablespoon of kukicha in a pot and boil the tea twigs in a liter of water for 5-10 minutes. Pour the tea through a sieve and let it cool down at room temperature. However, you do not have to throw away the tea twigs, but can use them multiple times for infusion.

Step 2
Slice the lemon and add it to the kukicha tea along with apple juice, lemon juice and ginger juice. You can garnish the drink with mint and serve it with ice cubes.

Tip:
You can also add fresh seasonal fruit pieces to your summer tea. So peaches or fresh strawberries are also quite suitable. You can create your very own tea creations.
